Coaching and Training

Players are strongly encouraged to work on fitness levels on a consistent basis and also to ensure that stretching is a regular part of their training routine - too many injuries wreak havoc with team preparation.

While coaching and training sessions are primarily intended for international squad players, all members are encouraged to attend to help improve both their skill and their fitness, as well as their understanding of the game.

A programme of coaching and training sessions was organised ahead of the Home Internationals in Durham in June and the European Cup in Neuss, Germany in August. Sessions at Peffermill on 17 April and 1 May were followed by two more at Riverside, Dundee and Bellahouston on 22 May and 5 June. A practice match against Stirling Wanderers Ladies is provisionally arranged for 6 November at Forthbank and a training/selection session is in planning for later in the year.

A programme of coaching and training sessions was held over the summer of 2010 in preparation for the World Championships in Cape Town, South Africa from 14-24 September 2010. Sessions took place at Forthbank, Stirling on 27 June, 18 July and 8 August.

Match practice before that included training fixtures against the Scotland Over 55s squad at Peffermill on Saturday 29 May 2010 and against the England Over 70s squad at Durham University on Sunday 20 June 2010.

The first training session of the year took place at Peffermill on Sunday 22 February 2009, when the 16 players present took part in two tough games against the Scotland Over 55s squad, going down 4-0 and 4-1.

Almost all the uninjured members of the Over 60s and Over 65s squads took part in a session at DISC, Dundee, on Sunday 8 March 2009 at 11:30 am during the annual Club get-together.

There was a training/practice session at Forthbank on Saturday 30 May for the Grand Masters squad, ahead of their two matches against England and Wales on Sunday 31 May.

Coaching and training sessions supported by the Awards for All grant in the lead up to the European Cup in Amstelveen in August 2009 took place at Forthbank, Stirling on Sunday 26 July and Sunday 9 August 2009, with the assistance of coach Ian Wilson.
