Scotland Over 70 Squad 2 Scotland Ladies Over 60 Squad 0

Playing a new 3-5-2 formation introduced by Coach Murray Paton, a Scotland Over 70 squad were given a stern workout by a Scotland Ladies Over 60 squad at Peffermill on Sunday 11 June 2017. In the initial stages of the game, as the men worked to get to grips with the new system, they were put under pressure by a well-organised Ladies team playing neat triangles out of defence and in attack.

As the game developed, and bolstered by some cameo appearances from players from younger age groups, the men were gradually becoming more comfortable with the new system and playing some attractive possession hockey, particularly after the issue of marking by the strengthened midfield was addressed.

The first half finished all square and goalless, but the game turned in the men's favour in the third quarter when, following a flowing movement down the left wing, underage replacement Peter Robertson prodded home a cross into the circle from all of a foot out. Also in the third quarter, the Over 70s were put under some pressure by the women who won a number of short corners and had reason to be thankful to Nigel Dixon for a number of good saves as the women worked nice possession to create shooting chances on the right side of the circle.

The game was made safe in the final quarter with a goal from Colin Tucker, following a short corner move straight from someone else's training ground.
